BRATWURST To cook Bratwurst, start with either a thawed or frozen package. If it is frozen, immerse the vacuum packed package into warm (NOT HOT) water for about 15 minutes. Open the package and put the Bratwurst into a skillet that has a lid. We prefer our iron skillet for making the Bratwurst. Turn the heat on medium low and put the lid on the skillet. Cook, turning occasionally to brown on all sides, for about 15-20 minutes.
Bratwurst is great served on a bun with sauerkraut. We have also added it to bean soups – it is especially good with split pea soup or lentil soup! It adds a great deal of seasoning to a large pot of soup, with just a small amount of meat. |
