Chevon (or goat meat) is rapidly gaining popularity as a low-fat, nutritionally dense meat. It does not taste strong or "gamey" but has a flavor similar to well-prepared venison. Some people have mistaken it for beef before knowing what it is.
Goat meat has many advantages. It ranks right up with chicken and fish in the low fat department and is being recommended for a heart-healthy diet. "The inspection of congealed fat drippings is a visual index as to the degree of saturated fats present. This is noticeably absent in goat meat." * Goat meat is very low in saturated fat. It supplies high quality protein along with healthy fat.* Yet, there is no worry about pesticide or heavy chemical residue as there will be with fish, nor worry about hormones or antibiotics as would be with grocery store chicken. (If you want pasture raised chicken, we have some neighbors who raise it. www.willowhills.org)
All of our chevon will be born and raised on our farm. Most of our goats available for sale will be the famous Boer goat crossed with our Purebred Nubian does. A very few Nubian wethers (like a steer) will also be available at a lower cost. Cost will depend on the size of the kid and/or the meat proportional to the weight of the goat. Goat will be more limited than beef. If you have a specific request for goat at a certain time, or weight, please reserve your animal ahead of time. For wholesale chevon prices, go HERE.
